eufyCam C35 4-Camera Kit

Private Smart Home

Our verdict

Four cameras that record to their own base station instead of to a monthly plan, from a brand that has to be judged on its history as well as its spec sheet.

Why we recommend it

The economics of security cameras are simple: the camera is cheap and the recording plan is where the money is. eufy built its business on refusing that model, storing footage locally and charging nothing monthly, and this four-camera kit is the current version of the promise. Colour night vision, IP67 weather sealing, magnetic mounts and an option to add solar panels so you stop climbing ladders to charge batteries. The part a product page usually leaves out: in 2022 and 2023 researchers showed that eufy cameras marketed as local were uploading thumbnails to the cloud and that streams could be viewed without encryption. The company fixed it and apologised. Whether that history disqualifies them is your call, but you should make it knowing.

Buying advice

Buy it for the no-subscription model, and treat every 'local' claim from any brand as a claim to check, not one to accept. Practically: plan where the base station lives before mounting anything, expect to add storage, and if the cameras face a street instead of a garden, budget for the solar panels straight away.

Frequently asked questions

Is there really no monthly fee?
For local recording to the base station, no. Optional cloud plans exist and you are not required to take one.
What happened with eufy and the cloud?
In 2022 and 2023 it emerged that cameras sold as local were sending thumbnail images to servers and that streams could be accessed unencrypted. eufy acknowledged it and changed the behavior.
How long does the storage last?
The 8 GB on board is enough for events, not for continuous recording. A busy driveway will overwrite quickly.
