Why we recommend it
Z-Wave is the protocol nobody talks about any more and plenty of houses are full of it, usually in the form of switches and locks fitted by a previous owner or an installer. Most modern hubs, the Aqara M3 included, cannot see those devices at all. The Aeotec can: it runs SmartThings and handles Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter and Wi-Fi in one box, which makes it the bridge between whatever is already installed and whatever you buy next. It also carries the most ratings of any hub here. The catch is that SmartThings leans on Samsung's cloud more than Aqara leans on its own, so this is the pragmatic choice, not the purist one.
Buying advice
Only buy this if Z-Wave is actually in the picture. If everything you own is Zigbee or Matter, you are paying for a radio you will never switch on, and the Aqara M3 does the rest for the same money with more of the work happening locally.
